Today is a great day, because WhatsApp is finally rolling out a good and useful feature: the possibility to listen to voice messages using different playback speeds!
This feature was under development and I’ve announced it one month ago:
📝 WhatsApp beta for Android 18.104.22.168: what’s new?
WhatsApp is working on 3 different playback speeds for voice messages, with a nice UI!
The feature is under development and it will be available later for iOS and Android beta builds.

WhatsApp is surprisingly releasing it, for Android beta testers, today! It’s very rare to see a feature enabled in such a short time (by comparing it to other WhatsApp features).
How to check if it’s enabled? It’s very simple: play a voice message and if you will see a playback speed symbol, the feature is enabled for you.
As you can see, the UI is different now: this is very common because features that are under development are used to change before the release. The new UI looks so:
If you tap the playback speed symbol, it will change. WhatsApp supports 1x, 1.5x and 2x as playback speeds.
Note that if you didn’t get the feature, don’t worry: WhatsApp is releasing it for more users day-to-day. More activations will be following later. Stay tuned for more announcements!
