Recently, we came across an interesting project by Benbackx, which proposes an innovative feature for generating advanced analytics for WhatsApp chats and groups. When this project was shared with us, it immediately reminded us of WhatsApp's former statistics feature but with a significant upgrade in functionality. While we recognize that several similar tools exist online, the quality and attention to detail in this project inspired the idea that a similar feature could be implemented directly within WhatsApp.
The project introduces a powerful analytics tool that allows users to gain in-depth insights into their WhatsApp conversations. By analyzing exported chat data, the project provides a wide array of metrics, including the total number of messages exchanged in a chat or group, a breakdown of message types (text, images, videos, voice notes, etc.), and the frequency and timing of messages sent and received. Additionally, it highlights engagement patterns, such as the balance of contributions between participants, sentiment analysis of emojis and reactions, and messaging habits, including reply speed and the most active times of day. These advanced analytics offer far more than just a count of messages, as they provide a detailed understanding of communication dynamics, engagement trends, and even the emotional tone of a conversation.
