Concept proposes a new chat analytic tool

In the past updates, WhatsApp offered a feature that allowed users to see some statistics of their chats. The overview included the number of messages, images, videos, and documents shared within a specific conversation. This feature allowed users to see the chat size and manage its media files. Unfortunately, WhatsApp decided to remove the feature by replacing it with the new "Manage Storage".

Recently, we discovered a project launched by Benbackx. It introduces an innovative tool that generates advanced analytics for WhatsApp chats and groups. When Benbackx shared the project with us, we compared it with the old statistics feature available in WhatsApp. But this one offers a significant upgrade in terms of functionality. Similar tools already exist on the web, but we believe that a it could be built directly into WhatsApp.

The project introduces an analytics tool that allows users to generate in-depth insights into their WhatsApp conversations. It allows users to see the number of messages shared in their conversation, a breakdown of their messages, and their frequency and timing. Additionally, it allows users to understand some engagement patterns, such as the sentiment analysis of emojis and reactions. It also notes messaging habits, including reply speed and the most active times of day. These advanced analytics offer far more than just a count of messages, as they provide a detailed overview of the conversation.

Generating statistics requires users to export their chat data from WhatsApp and upload it to external tools or services. These services deliver good results, but some of them may come with inherent privacy risks. Users must trust third-party developers to handle their chat data securely. Many developers emphasize privacy and data confidentiality, but we generally do not recommend sharing chat history with others. However, we still recognize the good work of certain projects like this, and leave it up to users to decide whether they wish to trust them.

The feature described in this concept is not currently available on WhatsApp. We extend our gratitude to Benbackx for bringing this project to our attention. We also recognize that it highlights the value it could bring to WhatsApp users If there are any updates on the potential implementation of this feature, we will share them in a new article on our website. We hope you enjoyed learning about our concept and would appreciate your feedback.
