WhatsApp released a dedicated app for Garmin smartwatches, making it easier for users to stay connected. Notifications and quick replies are available directly from their wrist, so they can keep up with their messages at anytime without reaching for their phone.
WhatsApp brings messaging and notifications to Garmin Smartwatches
In January, we announced that WhatsApp was working on improving support for Garmin devices. WhatsApp aimed to make it easier for users to stay connected without checking constantly their phones. Since then, WhatsApp has been refining the compatibility with Garmin smartwatches to offer a smooth experience. WhatsApp has focused on making notifications, messages, and quick replies work reliably on the watch.
Today, WhatsApp announced that it is now possible to manage your WhatsApp messages directly from your wrist. Incoming messages, notifications, and calls can be seen immediately without pulling out your phone. Quick replies are also supported, making it simpler for users to respond on the go. The experience remains secure since it maintains WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption. This ensures your conversations remain private even when accessed from a smartwatch.

To get started, users must install the latest version of the app from the Garmin Connect IQ™ Store. As with the Apple Watch, WhatsApp requires the smartphone to remain nearby within the Bluetooth range to maintain a reliable connection. This means that the watch must remain connected to receive messages and notifications. As a result, it's important to keep a stable connection between the phone and the watch for delivering messages and notifications instantly and correctly.
The new app lets you read notifications for incoming messages and reply to them directly. Notifications from WhatsApp will appear automatically on the watch once the apps are linked. Users can tap a notification to read the full message and see who sent it. It is possible to send new messages using predefined replies or emojis, or type a new message directly from the Garmin keyboard. The Garmin watch also displays your 10 most recent message threads. In addition, call notifications are supported. Calling support also allows users to decline incoming calls from the wrist. Multimedia content can be previewed on the watch. However, sending images or videos isn't supported.
The update works across multiple Garmin smartwatch models that support notifications. WhatsApp notes that supported Garmin devices include Enduro™ 3, fēnix® 8, fēnix® 8 Pro, fēnix® E, Forerunner® 570, Forerunner® 970, quatix® 8, tactix® 8, Venu® 4, Venu® X1, and vívoactive® 6. The minimum supported version of WhatsApp on both iOS and Android is 2.26.70. However, support for WhatsApp on Garmin smartwatches is intended for consumer use only. Business accounts are not currently supported, as the app is designed for personal messaging rather than professional use.
The integration with Garmin devices is designed to make communication easier for everyone. Users can stay on top of their messages while running, exercising, or just on the move. The app prioritizes speed and privacy, and it keeps everything secure. Consequently, users can enjoy the convenience of wrist-based notifications without constantly checking their phone. It's worth noting that iOS users will need to allow WhatsApp to access Bluetooth in their iPhone settings for the watch to receive messages and notifications properly.
Support for managing WhatsApp messages from Garmin smartwatches is available to users after installing the latest update of WhatsApp for Garmin 26.10.105. Users will also have to update their app on Android and iOS to ensure full compatibility with their Garmin smartwatch. This update ensures a convenient and secure way to stay connected while on the move.
