WhatsApp is working on managing two-step verification
After explaining that it's very important to choose authentication apps when you configure the two-step verification for your mail account, in order to protect your WhatsApp account from unauthorized access if you're a victim of SIM swap, today we want to introduce news to manage two-step verification on the desktop client in the future.

TWO-STEP VERIFICATION
It's very important to enable the two-step verification on WhatsApp, which adds more security to your account. When there is a registration of your WhatsApp account, after entering the 6-digit code, a personal PIN will be required to log into the account. WhatsApp wants to make it easier to manage two-step verification everywhere, so they are working on introducing the feature on the web/desktop client in a future update:
As you can see in this screenshot, it will be possible to enable or disable the two-step verification on the web/desktop client. This is very important especially when you lose your phone and you do not remember your PIN. Yes, you can restore it by requesting a reset link, but if you are temporarily unable to log into your mail account, this is a good solution.
This feature is not available right now but WhatsApp is planning to release it in a future update when the feature is ready.
