KEPT MESSAGES
If you follow our news frequently, you probably already know what a kept message is. It is a disappearing message temporarily converted to a standard WhatsApp message, so it can be kept in the chat even after its expiration. Kept messages can be viewed within chat info in a new section called "Kept messages", and all people in the conversation can open this section. When disappearing messages are turned on in a certain chat, disappearing messages cannot be starred but they can only be kept.
This feature is still under development but WhatsApp is now working on introducing the feature by presenting some information about an upgrade of disappearing messages in a future update of WhatsApp Desktop beta:
We published a similar introduction in the article about WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.11.16 update. This alert introduced what the changes are about: it will be possible to keep a disappearing message in order to prevent its automatic deletion for all people in the conversation, but everyone can also un-keep the message for other people later. In addition, WhatsApp will let group admins limit this feature, so probably there will be a new privacy setting that allows group admins to toggle the ability to keep a disappearing message.
Unfortunately, this feature is under development so we don't know when it will be released to beta testers. We will post another article when we discover new details.
