WhatsApp is working on a favorite contacts filter feature for the web client
WhatsApp is working on introducing new solutions to allow users to prioritize their conversations, offering them greater control and efficiency in their messaging experience. One of these new features in development is the ability to designate favorite contacts, which will appear with a dedicated chat filter in a future update of WhatsApp Web.

FAVORITE CONTACTS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.3.10.70 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a new feature to allow users to designate favorite contacts. This enhancement is designed to quickly place calls with select contacts directly from the calls tab, as a phone call will be just one tap away there. While this feature is still in development on the iOS app, it appears that WhatsApp is also working on a similar feature to provide users with a custom filter for their favorite contacts!
As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is now in the process of introducing a feature to allow users to filter the chats list by showing their favorite contacts in the future. Users will have control over choosing their favorite contacts as they can manually add the people they care about the most, and reach them easily through a dedicated filter.
In our opinion, introducing the ability to designate favorite contacts and filter the chats list by these favorites proves particularly advantageous for users who manage numerous conversations. By allowing users to mark specific contacts as favorites, WhatsApp enables them to prioritize key conversations, ensuring quick and easy access to those they frequently interact with. The introduction of favorite contacts not only simplifies the process of reaching out to frequently contacted users but also adds a layer of customization, allowing them to improve their messaging experience to suit their preferences. We believe that this feature further reflects WhatsApp's commitment to enhancing user experience by providing more personalized communication options.
