MESSAGE YOURSELF

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.24.11 update, we announced that it was possible to open the chat with your own phone number right within your contacts list. This is definitely new on Android but probably you remember that it was already possible to find your phone number within your contacts list in past releases of WhatsApp for iOS: since this feature was incompatible with multi-device, that entry point has been removed several months ago.
Finally, WhatsApp is restoring the entry point to open the chat with your own phone number and it is now available to some users:

As you can see in this screenshot, your personal contact may now be visible right within the contacts list. In addition, a different chat caption shows up when opening this chat: "Message yourself". Note that messages sent to this particular chat will be visible across your linked devices and they are always end-to-end encrypted (the encryption key is generated by using all your linked devices).

The ability to open the chat with your own phone number right within your contacts list and the new chat caption have been released to some users that install the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store and TestFlight and the changes are rolling out to more users over the coming days.
