WhatsApp is working on Liquid Glass interface for the chat bar
In the post about the WhatsApp for iOS 26.6.73 update, we announced a feature that lets some businesses experience the Liquid Glass interface. The update allows some businesses to experiment with the latest visual framework introduced by Apple with iOS 26. It includes a redesigned tab bar, updated buttons, and a refreshed context menu that follow the Liquid Glass design guidelines. The rollout has reached a substantial number of users on WhatsApp Business, and many have reported on X and Threads the appearance of the Liquid Glass interface across the main navigation elements of the app.
As WhatsApp gradually expands Liquid Glass support to more users, WhatsApp is also working on improving compatibility with this new visual framework. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.7.10.74 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that brings the Liquid Glass design to the chat bar.

As you can see from the attached image, WhatsApp is developing a feature that will implement a new chat bar compatible with Liquid Glass, scheduled for release in a future update. Users with a version of WhatsApp that supports Liquid Glass may have noticed that many elements of the app already reflect the new design. However, one of the few major elements that has not yet been updated is the chat bar. The chat bar still appears as a bar anchored to the bottom edge of the screen, which does not match the Liquid Glass design. The only visual change is a translucent effect introduced in the past few years, but it is unrelated to the new framework.
Finally, WhatsApp is now working on updating the chat bar, which is considered the main element of our conversations. The chat bar will still be located at the bottom of the screen, but it finally appears as a floating component. Buttons within the current chat bar will also be visually separated. The attachment menu is still present, and it lets users choose what to share in the current chat. The text field for composing messages remains, along with the shortcut to open the sticker keyboard. In addition, we have two separate buttons for the camera (or video notes) and the button to start a voice recording with are no longer grouped on the same background.
As a result, the entire chat bar will be compatible with Liquid Glass. This means that its background will use the translucent, glass-like material that dynamically reflects and refracts what is behind it. The new effect will give the bar a sense of depth and context rather than a solid flat color. The subtle transparency will adapt to light and dark content so the chat bar feels integrated with the rest of the interface. Since Liquid Glass responds to movement and environmental context, the appearance of the entire chat bar can shift slightly as users scroll or interact with the app. The refined blur and layering effects will also make the chat bar visually lighter. These effects will help users focus their attention on the conversation above it rather than on a heavy UI element.
While there is clear progress in bringing Liquid Glass to more elements of the app, there is still no news about a full rollout to all users. It seems that WhatsApp continues to adopt a phased rollout strategy for Liquid Glass. Although slower than initially expected, this approach allows WhatsApp to carefully evaluate performance across devices, refine visual behavior, resolve potential issues, and ensure a stable experience before expanding availability further. Over the coming weeks, the app will receive further refinements to bring the entire interface closer in line with Liquid Glass.
The feature that brings the Liquid Glass design to the chat bar is under development, and it's expected to be available in a future update. WhatsApp is currently working on improving the chat bar with Liquid Glass. Once development is complete, the feature will be rolled out to select beta testers, who can provide initial feedback and reports based on their experience.
