This feature will allow group members to quickly share status updates visible exclusively to their group without needing to tag or mention the group in individual messages. Accessible via new shortcuts in the group chat info screen, users can choose from various update types such as media, text, music, or layouts, with the status audience automatically set to the group itself. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to bring the same group status updates functionality to iOS users in the future, ensuring a consistent experience across both platforms. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.19.10.76 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to create and share status updates in group chats!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that lets users share status updates directly with their groups in a more streamlined way, scheduled for release in a future update. This feature aims to provide a dedicated space for group members to post updates without the need to mention the group in their individual status updates. Unlike the current method where users tag groups and send notifications to all members, this new feature offers a less intrusive way to share content, as it will not generate mention notifications. This means group members will be able to share moments and updates more freely without worrying about spamming the group with alerts in the future.

As with regular status updates, the group status will automatically disappear after 24 hours, maintaining the ephemeral nature that users are accustomed to. The content that can be shared within these group statuses is diverse and flexible, including photos, videos, text, music clips, and various layouts. Once a group status is posted, members can view it in the Updates tab as well as through several convenient access points, such as tapping the group icon in the chat list, within the group conversation itself, or from the group chat info screen.

This integration aims to keep group interactions more dynamic and connected by providing a dedicated space for sharing moments that matter to the entire group. Additionally, the feature simplifies the user experience by automatically setting the status audience to the group, removing the need for manually mention the group. It's important to note that group status updates are visible exclusively to members of that specific group, ensuring that only participants can see the shared content. Additionally, these new updates are protected with end-to-end encryption, keeping all shared information secure and private within the group.
