MULTI-ACCOUNT
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.9.10.70 update, we announced that a feature to add and manage multiple user accounts was under development. This feature will allow users to add a second WhatsApp account directly from the app settings, enabling them to switch between accounts on the same device without relying on WhatsApp Business. Each account will have its own separate settings, notifications, and chat history, providing a clear distinction between personal and professional use. Users will be able to add a second account either by registering with a new phone number or by linking an existing account via QR code. Although this feature is still in development, WhatsApp appears to be actively refining the ability to control multiple accounts ahead of its official beta release, aiming to provide users with a more optimized experience from the outset. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.19.10.74 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to switch between multiple accounts!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow users to quickly switch between multiple accounts, scheduled for release in a future update. This functionality will be accessible from a new section that provides an overview of all accounts registered in the app directly in the settings page. The section will display the profile pictures and names of each account, making it easier for users to identify and switch between them. As previously announced, the same section will also let users add a new account to the app without losing the data of their existing accounts.
When a user selects an account different from the currently active one, WhatsApp will immediately switch to that account. This action will load the chat history specific to the selected account and apply its unique settings and preferences. This includes notification tones, auto-download behavior, backup preferences, and other settings specific to that particular profile. Switching accounts does not require logging out or restarting the app, as the transition will happen instantly within the same session, allowing users to move seamlessly between profiles with just a tap. Additionally, a confirmation message will briefly appear at the bottom of the screen, informing the user that the account switch has been completed successfully.
With the latest update, WhatsApp is currently developing a new way to handle notifications across multiple accounts. When a message is received on the secondary account while the user is using the primary one, WhatsApp will show a specially formatted notification. This notification will display not only the name of the sender but also the name of the account that received the message, helping users avoid confusion. The title of the notification will clearly indicate which account it belongs to by including the account name, providing a clear and immediate distinction between messages received on different profiles and helping users avoid any potential confusion when managing multiple accounts. Tapping on such a notification will automatically trigger an account switch, taking the user directly to the relevant conversation in the correct account. This ensures a smooth transition and immediate access to the message, without the need to manually navigate to the accounts section.
This feature will be particularly useful for users who have more than one phone number and prefer not to rely on WhatsApp Business to manage a secondary account. With the growing adoption of eSIM technology, especially on supported iPhone models where users can store eight or more eSIMs and activate them as needed, the ability to add and switch between multiple WhatsApp accounts within the same app becomes especially valuable. Instead of relying on multiple devices, users will be able to manage all their accounts from one place, making communication more efficient and centralized.
A feature that allows users to switch between multiple accounts is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will keep you updated on any further developments about this feature until it's officially released.
