Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.18.10.79 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a Writing Help feature powered by AI Private Processing to enhance messages!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow users to privately improve their messages, scheduled for release in a future update. As mentioned in our story covering the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.19.8 update, Writing Help relies on Private Processing, a system designed to protect user privacy by processing all data in a secure infrastructure. Through private routing and encrypted connections, Private Processing ensures that all requests are transmitted securely and anonymously, allowing messages to be processed without leaving any trace or record of their content.

When Private Processing is enabled in the app settings, users will see an option to improve their message while they are typing it. This feature is entirely optional, allowing users to decide if they want to make use of these AI-powered writing enhancements. If the user opts to use this tool, they will be presented with a variety of suggestions that can be applied to their message, tailored to different tones depending on the context.

The available tones will include "Rephrase", which helps make the message clearer and more concise. Users will also be able to choose the "Professional" tone, which adjusts the wording to sound more formal and appropriate for work or official communications. Additionally, the "Funny" tone adds a humorous touch to make the message more playful, while "Supportive" makes the message sound more empathetic and encouraging. However, WhatsApp plans to expand Writing Help by adding even more tones in the future, giving users a broader range of options to customize their messages according to their personal style or the specific conversation context. This will enrich the user experience, making it easier for everyone to communicate exactly how they want.

Once the user selects the most appropriate suggestion, WhatsApp will replace the original typed message with the improved version generated by Writing Help. However, the recipients of the message will not be notified or aware that the message was enhanced by this feature. Users will also be able to provide feedback on the suggestions they receive, helping WhatsApp to refine and improve the service over time. This feedback is collected in a fully private manner: neither the original message nor the AI-generated suggestions are shared with WhatsApp or Meta. Instead, only an anonymized flag representing the user's satisfaction level is shared.

It's important to note that the Writing Help feature is entirely optional and designed to respect user choice and privacy. Users who do not wish to use it can simply choose not to engage with the Writing Help section while composing messages or, if preferred, disable the Private Processing system altogether from within the app's settings menu. Furthermore, Writing Help will strictly operate only on the message the user is currently typing at that moment, ensuring that no other messages within the conversation thread are accessed, analyzed, or processed in any way.
