STICKER REACTIONS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.13.23 update, we announced that a feature to react to messages and media using stickers was under development. This new functionality aims to expand the expressive capabilities of message reactions in the future through the ability to react using any sticker. This feature is designed to offer a more personalized and dynamic way to communicate emotions and reactions beyond the limitations of standard emojis. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to bring the same sticker reaction functionality to iOS users in the future, ensuring a consistent experience across both platforms. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.16.10.72 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to react to messages and media using stickers!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow users to react to messages using stickers directly from the reaction tray, scheduled for release in a future update. Just like with emoji reactions, the tray will continue to display the default emoji set and a selection of recently used emojis to provide quick access. In addition to these, users will also be able to see their most recently used stickers in the same tray, making it easier to respond without needing to open the full sticker panel. This integration is designed to streamline the reaction process while giving users more expressive tools at their fingertips.
This feature doesn't limit users to just the suggested or recently used stickers, as they will be able to access their entire sticker collection, including downloaded packs, saved stickers, AI-generated stickers, and third-party sticker imports. This means that any sticker a user has in their library, can be used as a reaction to a message or media file. Animated stickers, including those from WhatsApp created using the Lottie framework, will also be supported, making the experience more engaging.
Reacting with stickers will add a unique layer of personalization to conversations that emojis sometimes lack. While emojis are universally recognized and simple to use, they can feel generic or too broad to convey specific emotions or tones. Stickers, on the other hand, can include unique characters, cultural references, or even inside jokes, making reactions more entertaining. For example, instead of reacting to an annoying message with just an angry emoji, users could use a sticker of a character crossing their arms in frustration, which conveys their irritation more clearly and humorously.
A feature to react to messages and media using stickers is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will keep you updated on any further developments about this feature until it's officially released.
