PIX KEY

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.2.10 update, we announced that a feature to control PIX keys was available to some beta testers. This feature allows users to manage the visibility of their PIX Key directly from their WhatsApp profile. By offering flexible privacy settings, users can choose who can see their PIX Key, making it visible to everyone, restricted to their contacts, excluded from specific contacts, or hidden from everyone entirely. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer iOS users the same opportunity to control their PIX keys as it already does for the Android version, aiming to provide a consistent experience across both platforms. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.1.10.78 update, which is available on TestFlight, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a privacy feature that allows users to display PIX keys on their profiles!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can experiment with a new feature that allows them to control the visibility of their PIX Key on their WhatsApp profile. PIX Keys are unique identifiers used in Brazil's PIX payment system, a revolutionary instant payment platform created by the Central Bank of Brazil. These keys link a user bank account to an easy-to-remember identifier, such as a phone number, email address, CPF (taxpayer registry ID), or a random key, making transactions quicker and more efficient. Since PIX is specific to Brazil, this new feature is only available for WhatsApp users in the country, as it is tailored to integrate with the local payment system developed by the Central Bank of Brazil.

With this new privacy control, users can determine the visibility of their PIX Key through four options. They can make it accessible to everyone on WhatsApp, ensuring maximum exposure, which could be particularly beneficial for businesses. Alternatively, they can restrict visibility to their contacts, allowing only those saved in their address book to see the key. The option to exclude specific contacts offers an additional layer of customization, ideal for situations where users want to block certain users. Lastly, it is possible to choose to hide the PIX Key entirely, preserving user privacy by keeping the information visible only when manually shared.

The choice users make affects the visibility of the PIX Key shortcut in the chat info screen. This means that if a user opts for "Everyone", their PIX Key will appear whenever someone views their profile through chat info. On the other hand, choosing "My Contacts" or "My Contacts Except" ensures that only the intended audience can access this information, providing a tailored and secure approach to sharing payment details. It's worth noting that, while this feature is currently available to some beta testers in the latest beta version of WhatsApp, it may also be accessible to a limited group of users in the stable version, though it has not yet been widely rolled out to all users in Brazil.

A privacy feature that allows users to display PIX keys on their profiles is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it's rolling out to more people over the coming weeks.
