EXPLORE SIMILAR CHANNELS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.7 update, we announced a feature in development to suggest similar channels to users. This enhancement would offer users the opportunity to discover new channels aligned with their interests and preferences, based on their similarity to other existing channels they currently follow. While this feature is still under development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it seems that WhatsApp is working on bringing the same similar channels feature to the iOS app as well, as spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.7.10.72 update from the TestFlight app.
As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is experimenting with a new feature to allow users to explore more channels, set for a future update of the app. Recommendations for similar channels will appear within the channel info screen, making it easier for users to understand that these channels share similarities with the one they are currently viewing. It is important to note that the list of similar channels will also appear when attempting to follow a channel, not only within the channel info screen. In addition, the number of suggested channels varies depending on the availability of similar channels, and it can range up to 5 suggested channels. However, this number may change over time as the availability of similar channels evolves.
In our opinion, this feature will significantly improve content discovery for users. By suggesting similar channels, it will expand their exposure to content that aligns with their interests. Users may not be aware of all the relevant channels available on WhatsApp, and this feature will help them discover new content they may find interesting. It's worth noting that this feature will also benefit channel owners by increasing their visibility and audience reach. When similar channels will be suggested to users, we believe that they're more likely to follow additional channels related to the same topics or interests, enhancing their access to relevant updates and content.
