PRIVATE MENTION
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.19 update, we announced a new feature in development to mention contacts in status updates. This feature was designed to enhance engagement with their contacts by notifying them to draw attention to specific content or moments shared in the status updates. Although this feature is still under development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it seems that WhatsApp is now in the process of introducing the same feature on the iOS app as well, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.7.10.71 update from the TestFlight app.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently working on a feature to privately mention contacts in status updates, for a future update of the app. Whenever a contact is mentioned in a status update, a notification is sent exclusively to that particular contact, ensuring they are alerted to the mention. It is very important to note that this action will be private: only the mentioned contacts will receive notifications, ensuring privacy as other users won't be able to view these mentions.
In our opinion, this upcoming feature will significantly boost user engagement with specific contacts. By allowing users to mention contacts in their status updates, it generates a greater sense of interaction within specific contacts. This system will ensure that important updates or moments are always brought to the attention of mentioned contacts since a notification is sent directly to them. We believe that the private nature of these mentions respects user privacy, as only the intended recipients will receive notifications. In addition, since these mentions are private, they won't be visible in status updates, ensuring that they remain discreet and confined to the intended recipients.
A feature to privately mention contacts in status updates is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will continue to keep you informed of any further developments regarding this feature leading up to its release.
