In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.12 update, we announced a feature in development to allow users to create group chat events for communities. This feature is designed to help users create reminders or virtual meetings for specific occasions, making it easier for them to stay organized and connected within their communities. Although this feature is still under development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it seems that WhatsApp is now in the process of developing the ability to create community group chat events for the iOS app as well, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.6.10.73 update from the TestFlight app.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, there will be a new option to allow users to create events in community group chats, in a future update of the app. These events will include a name, a description of up to 2048 characters, a designated start date, an optional location, and a feature to initiate a video call once the event has started. Once the event begins, all community members who have accepted the invitation will receive a notification, reminding them of the event details. It's worth noting that community group chat events are end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that only members in the community have access to them.

In our opinion, the feature to create group chat events for communities will bring increased engagement among members by facilitating the organization of virtual meetings, reminders, or special occasions within the community. This capability will allow community members to stay connected and actively participate in relevant events, discussions, or collaborative activities, making it easier for people to participate and feel involved. By providing a feature to create event coordination and communication, we believe that it will enrich the community experience, ensuring that important events or appointments are not overlooked. It is important to note that WhatsApp is also considering implementing this feature for regular groups unrelated to communities, although it may not be available anytime soon.

A feature to create group chat events for communities is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we will continue to provide updates regarding any developments related to this feature until its release.
