RECENT EMOJIS - MESSAGE REACTIONS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.21.15 update, we announced that WhatsApp is currently developing a new feature to react to messages using recent emojis. Through this enhancement, WhatsApp plans to offer users the ability to quickly access to their most frequently used emojis directly within the reaction tray, offering greater convenience and flexibility when responding to messages. While this feature is still in development on WhatsApp beta for Android, it appears that WhatsApp is also working on bringing it to the iOS app, aiming to provide a consistent experience across both platforms. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.21.10.76 update, which is available from the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to react to messages using recent emojis!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of an extended reaction tray feature, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. Currently, the reaction tray hosts six default emojis, giving users a basic set of options to quickly react to messages. However, with the planned update, the reaction tray will become scrollable, allowing users to select from a wider variety of emojis, including those they've recently used.

This new feature will significantly enhance user interaction by removing the six-emoji limit that currently restricts reactions. The ability to scroll through a larger selection of emojis means users can react more freely and personally without needing to open the entire emoji panel each time. This can be useful for those users who frequently rely on non-default emojis for reactions, as this feature will be a major time-saver. Instead of navigating through the emoji panel to find the right emoji, users will simply be able to scroll through their recently used emojis directly from the tray. We believe it is also particularly useful for those who regularly change the types of emojis they use in responses, as their recent selections will be readily available.

A feature to react to messages using recent emojis is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will keep you updated on any further developments about this feature until it's officially released.
