CHANNEL OWNERSHIP

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.2.17 update, we announced a new feature under development for channel owners: the ability to transfer the ownership of their channels. With this enhancement, channel owners will finally have direct control and empowerment over the ownership of their channels. This feature is still in development on WhatsApp beta for Android. However, thanks to the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.2.10.70 update, which was available on the TestFlight app and later removed due to a bug with sending messages, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new feature to transfer the channel ownership!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring a new option to provide channel owners with a feature to transfer the ownership of their channels in a future update of the app. To correctly execute the ownership transfer, the designated recipient must first be assigned as a channel admin. It is important to note that the process of transferring channel ownership is irreversible. Once ownership is transferred to another admin, this action cannot be undone. It is advised to exercise caution and ensure that the decision to transfer ownership is made with careful consideration, as the operation is final and permanent.

Introducing a feature on WhatsApp that enables channel owners to transfer the ownership of their channel to another admin can bring about several advantages. In various scenarios, a channel owner may need to step down due to personal reasons, time constraints, or other commitments. Being able to transfer ownership helps in maintaining the continuity of the channel's management without disruptions. In addition, channel owners may use multiple phone numbers for various reasons, such as personal and professional distinctions. Allowing the transfer of ownership across different WhatsApp accounts ensures that the owner can consolidate their management responsibilities under one primary account.

A feature to transfer the channel ownership is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we are going to publish another article when we have further details about this feature to share with you.
