COMMUNITY GROUP CHAT ICONS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.13.12 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out new icons for communities and their linked groups. These updates include a refreshed design where the community announcement group now features a new layout to make it easier for users to distinguish it from other regular groups. Instead, groups linked to communities are also identifiable with the community icon always visible behind the group icon. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to offer iOS users the same opportunity to differentiate communities and their linked groups as it already does for the Android version. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.14.10.76 update, which is available on the TestFlight app, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out new icons for communities and their linked groups!
As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers on iOS are already experimenting with the new icons within the chats list, which feature the same intuitive design changes introduced on Android last year, making it easier to identify community-related chats directly from the chat list. The updated icons include a new green community announcement group symbol with a megaphone overlaying the community icon, providing a clear visual distinction from other regular chats. Additionally, groups linked to a community now prominently display the community icon behind the group icon to further enhance user experience by allowing for quick identification of linked groups.
It could be complicated to distinguish a community group from a regular group in the past, particularly if they had the same name or icon. These new icons eliminate this confusion by providing a distinct visual difference, making it easier for users to identify community-related chats at a glance. It is also important to note that users may no longer need to open the community tab to distinguish community groups from regular groups, enhancing the way users interact with and manage their chats.
A feature to bring new icons to communities and their linked group chats is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it's rolling out to more people over the coming days.
