SCREENSHOT BLOCKING
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.4.25 update, we announced a feature to prevent screenshots of profile photos. This feature is designed to increase user privacy and reduce the risks associated with unauthorized sharing and distribution of personal images. Although users on WhatsApp beta for Android cannot currently take screenshots of profile photos, this feature is not yet available for iOS users. However, it appears that WhatsApp is now in the process of introducing this feature even on the iOS app, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.10.10.70 update from the TestFlight app.

As you can see from the attached screenshot, a message will appear notifying users that taking screenshots of profile photos has been blocked to protect everyone's privacy on WhatsApp, set for release in a future update. This feature will offer an additional layer of privacy protection by stopping users from capturing and sharing profile photos without the owner's consent. It's important to note that people might still use other devices or cameras to capture the image, but by blocking the screenshot feature within the app, unauthorized sharing of profile photos will definitely be reduced.
In our opinion, WhatsApp aims to give users more control over their personal information, reducing the potential for misuse of profile photos by implementing a technology that blocks the ability to capture screenshots within the app. While the feature will not entirely eliminate the risk of unauthorized image capture, we believe that it represents a significant step toward reinforcing privacy. By stopping the ability to take screenshots of profile photos, WhatsApp will reduce the risk of these photos being misused or distributed without proper authorization in the future.
A feature to block screenshots of profile photos is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will keep you updated on any further developments about this feature until it's officially released.
