VOICE STATUS UPDATES

A few weeks ago, we posted news about the development of a new feature available in a future update of WhatsApp beta for iOS: the ability to share voice notes via status updates. Thanks to this feature, it would have been possible to share voice notes via status updates with a specific audience, configured right within your privacy settings.
A few days ago, the feature has been released to some beta testers after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.8 update, and it is finally rolling out to some iOS users on the latest beta!

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp has implemented a new feature that allows selected beta testers to record and share voice notes. If you want to discover if you can already share a voice note via status, please visit the text status section where you should see a microphone icon in case the feature is enabled for your WhatsApp account. Voice notes shared as status updates cannot be longer than 30 seconds, and users also have the option to forward voice notes from their chats to status.

When you're recording a voice note for your status update, you can decide to discard the recording if you don't like the result. Similar to images and videos, voice notes shared via status automatically expire after 24 hours but you can delete them for everyone at any time. In addition, they are end-to-end encrypted so only people you choose can listen to them if they're on an updated version of WhatsApp.

The ability to share a voice note via status update is rolling out to some beta testers after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.2.0.70 update from the TestFlight app. If you don't have this feature, note that WhatsApp plans to widely release it to more users over the coming weeks: it's just a matter of time.
