MESSAGE REACTIONS
WhatsApp has rolled out the ability to react to messages on WhatsApp beta for Android several times. The first time the company has released the feature after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.8.3 update, and the feature has been enabled to more beta testers after releasing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.9.4 version. Day by day, more beta testers on Android were able to react to messages. Unfortunately, no news was available for the iOS beta app... until today.
WhatsApp is finally enabling message reactions to some lucky iOS beta testers after installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.9.0.71 update from TestFlight!
As you can see in this screenshot, it is very easy to check if the ability to react to messages is enabled for your WhatsApp account: just tap and hold a chat bubble to see if the reaction tray is available. This is the first version of message reactions that includes 6 emojis: Like, Love, Laugh, Suprised, Sad, and Thanks. Note that more reactions will be available in a future update: Will Cathcart has also announced on Twitter the feature to come at a later date.
If the feature is not available for your WhatsApp account, there is nothing to worry about: WhatsApp is slowly releasing the feature to some beta testers, so there is nothing wrong with your installation of WhatsApp. The same happened on WhatsApp beta for Android as well, so more activations are planned at a later date for everyone and there isn't a known release date, unfortunately. It is not even possible to join the iOS beta program to try to see if message reactions are available for your account, since the beta program is closed. There will surely be another post on this website when the feature is released.
