SCREENSHOT BLOCKING

Yesterday, we published an article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.22.3 update where we announced a new feature: screenshot blocking. Thanks to screenshot blocking, users will no longer be possible to take a screenshot to view once images and videos. Finally, WhatsApp is finally releasing this protection to prevent people from taking a screenshot, or a screen recording, to view once messages and it is available for some users that install the latest beta from TestFlight!

As you can see in this screenshot, it is no longer possible to take screenshots and screen recordings to view once images and videos. People may still use a secondary mobile device to get these messages so you should always be careful when sending view once images and videos. In addition, WhatsApp is also releasing the same feature to some users on WhatsApp Business beta for iOS. When you send a view once image or video and this feature is enabled:

  • Screen recording to view once images and videos is also blocked by default.
  • You can still take a screenshot of a conversation since this feature is limited to view once images and videos.
  • The attempt to take a screenshot is always blocked but it is not notified.
  • It isn't possible to forward, export, or save, view once images and videos but the recipient can still take a photo by using a secondary mobile device in order to get your view once message, so be careful when you send it.

This feature has been released to some beta testers that use an updated beta build from TestFlight, and it will be rolled to more users over the coming weeks.
