WHO CAN SEE WHEN I'M ONLINE

Last month, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Facebook three new privacy features that would have been released to WhatsApp users: past group participants, screenshot blocking, and who can see when you're online on WhatsApp. A lot of Android beta testers were already able to manage who can see their online presence on WhatsApp after installing the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.20.9 update and there is finally news for iOS users today: WhatsApp is now releasing the ability to hide the online status to some lucky beta testers after installing the latest beta from TestFlight!

As you can see in this screenshot, it is easy for you to check if the feature is already enabled for your WhatsApp account: just check if the section "Last seen" contains an additional setting called "who can see when I'm online": in this case, it means the feature is finally available for you!
You can hide your online presence on WhatsApp to only people that cannot see your last seen by selecting "same as last seen". So, if nobody can see your last seen, they won't be able to see when you're active on WhatsApp. If you choose "My contacts" and "same as last seen", it means non-contacts won't be able to understand when you're online.

If you didn't get the feature, don't worry: WhatsApp just started releasing the feature to some lucky beta testers. If nothing wrong happens while releasing this feature to those people, WhatsApp will make the rollout wider by enabling the new privacy settings for more users. In the meantime, please keep your WhatsApp version up to date and we will let you know when there is news for more users.
