WhatsApp has recently submitted a new update through the TestFlight Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.20.10.23, the update for the new year!
I always recommend to back up your chat history before updating to the new beta: if there is something wrong with the update, your messages are safe on iCloud and you can downgrade to the precedent version from TestFlight or App Store.
Let’s find out together what is new ..

KNOWN ISSUES
  • In the 2.19.120.20 update, WhatsApp has implemented a redesigned footer in some parts of the app.
The Splash Screen could not appear for some users, and the issue might persist in the 2.20.10 update.
COMPILED USING THE IOS13 SDK

WhatsApp 2.20.10 is finally compiled using the iOS13 SDK: this means that WhatsApp is starting to support iOS 13 features.
It also supports Haptic Touch for chat and media preview and some new UI elements of iOS 13:

Thanks Crypto0149 for the report

About the Haptic Touch support, the Callout menu looks different on iOS 13:

Map is also dark when you open WhatsApp when the iOS System theme is Dark:

LOW DATA MODE

iOS 13 offers a new feature: Low Data Mode.
When this feature is enabled, apps that are compatible with this feature will reduce the amount of their network data usage.

Being fully compatible with iOS 13, WhatsApp now supports Low Data Mode automatically if you have enabled this option in your iPhone Settings.
When enabled, WhatsApp will automatically stop to download media from cellular, even if you have configured different auto download settings. Low Data Mode will also stop to auto-download voice messages, that’s something that was never possible to disable (to ensure the best communication experience):

CONTACTS INTEGRATION

Thanks to iOS 13 APIs, you can share items directly with some suggested WhatsApp contacts, using the new iOS share sheet!

CHAT BADGE FOR 999+ MESSAGES

In the previous update, some followers reported that WhatsApp didn’t show a correct chat badge, if there were more than 999 messages.

In the 2.20.10 update, WhatsApp has modified the limitation of the chat badge, showing “999+” when there are more than 999 messages.

DARK WIDGET

Being compatible with iOS 13, WhatsApp is focusing to work on the Dark Theme. We have already explained that there will be two different configurations, in according to your iPhone Accessibility Settings.
The feature is not available yet, but finally we can see small visible details in this update!

DARK THEME VISIBLE

The Dark Theme is not available yet.. but you have a possibility to see it right now!
When you share something in WhatsApp, for example a photo from your Camera Roll, you see the Dark Theme!

We do not know yet when the Dark Theme will be available, but these details suggest that the release might be very soon.
