WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to manage chats with Meta AI

In the post about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.6.5 update, we announced a dedicated Meta AI tab to centralize all AI-powered features in one place. This feature will provide access to all tools offered by Meta AI, organizing them in one place for more convenient access. These include options to quickly generate images, place calls with Meta AI, and the ability to consult individual conversations with the chatbot. Together, these capabilities aim to streamline how users interact with AI-powered features within WhatsApp by bringing them into a single, unified hub.

The tab dedicated to Meta AI is still under development. However, partial elements of the feature have started to appear in the latest beta build to select beta testers. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.9.4 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature that allows users to organize their chat history with Meta AI.

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can access a new feature that lets them explore their conversations with Meta AI. When users send a new prompt to Meta AI, the chatbot initiates a new conversation. The details shared in the new conversation are used by Meta AI to understand the context and generate responses for subsequent commands. At the moment, all messages shared with Meta AI appear in a single interface, even when they belong to different conversations.

With the latest update, WhatsApp is making it easier for users to track information shared in specific conversations with Meta AI. Each conversation is now treated as a separate thread, so information from one chat is not automatically carried over to another. However, memory is still shared across all AI threads unless users choose to disable it from the contact info screen. Users included in this rollout will see a popup within the Meta AI chat interface. The popup says that users can now easily see and organize their chat history with Meta AI.

When users tap the new entry point placed within the top app bar, they will see the full chat history. This section includes the list of all conversations initiated with the chatbot. It also includes a shortcut to quickly open the contact info screen. To quickly locate a conversation, users can refer to its name and the date when it was created. This new approach keeps user interactions with Meta AI organized. This also makes it simpler for users to manage different topics independently. Users can return to any conversation at any time to review previous interactions or continue the discussion.

Meta AI automatically generates a title for a conversation based on its context. If users do not like the title generated by Meta AI or prefer a different label to easily distinguish the conversation from others, they can choose a custom name. To do so, users can tap and hold the conversation and tap the pencil icon and enter the new name. After confirming the new name, the updated title will immediately appear in the conversation list and it can be used to identify the chat going forward.

Separate threads will help users keep discussions organized by topic, making it easier to find specific information later. It also reduces confusion, as users can quickly distinguish a conversation focused on one topic from others. This structure allows users to manage different requests independently, but these threads will still benefit from shared memory when enabled. The separation between chats also improves continuity, as users can pause and resume their conversations without losing context. As a result, dedicated threads make interactions with Meta AI within WhatsApp more structured, efficient, and easier to navigate.

The feature that allows users to organize their chat history with Meta AI is available to some beta testers who install the latest WhatsApp beta for Android update from the Google Play Store. This feature is being currently rolled out to some beta testers. Over the next few weeks, WhatsApp will allow more users to review their chats with Meta AI.
