INVITE VIA GROUP LINK

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.4.3 update, we announced that a feature to assign labels to group chat members was under development. This feature would allow group members to create personalized labels to define their roles within a chat, enhancing clarity and fostering better communication. Unlike standard group titles or nicknames, these labels are designed to provide context regarding each member's responsibilities or position, making it easier for others to know who to contact for specific needs in the future. It seems that WhatsApp is developing additional tools to provide group admins more control over how their groups are managed and how members interact within them. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.9.2 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to allow group members to access the group invite link!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that will allow group admins to decide whether members of their groups can access the invite link, scheduled for release in a future update. Currently, group invite links are private and can only be accessed by group admins. If a non-admin user wishes to invite someone to the group, they must request the link from an admin, who then decides whether to share it. However, this upcoming feature will introduce an additional layer of flexibility by giving admins the option to enable the ability for members to access and share the invite link directly.

This new option will be available in the group settings, specifically within the section dedicated to admin tools. In this section, group admins can already manage a variety of settings, including member approvals and who can edit group info. By adding this invite link management feature, WhatsApp aims to further enhance the admin experience, giving them more tailored control over how their group works. It's worth noting that this option will be turned off by default, ensuring that only admins have the authority to share the invite link. However, if admins choose to enable it, all group members will see the invite link and will be able to share it with others. This effectively extends the ability to invite new participants from admins to the entire group, as this will be visible within the group info screen.

This feature will be particularly useful in groups with a clear, common purpose, such as study groups, fan clubs, or local event planning committees. When admins trust their members to invite appropriate participants, this new feature will be able to facilitate faster group expansion, encourage greater participation, and reduce the administrative burden on group owners. However, group admins will still retain overall control. If any issues arise or the group dynamics shift, they will be able to disable the option at any time and reset the group invite link, restricting it to admins only. This flexible approach balances convenience and security, allowing admins to adapt the group settings as needed.

A feature to allow group members to access the group invite link is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
