SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILE LINKS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 25.3.10.72 update, we announced that a feature to add social media links to user profiles was under development. This feature aims to provide users with the option to link their social media profiles directly within their WhatsApp account, making it easier for their contacts to connect with them on other platforms in the future. It appears that WhatsApp now intends to bring the same social link feature to Android users in an upcoming update, ensuring a consistent experience across both platforms. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.4.9 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to add social media links to user profiles!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring a feature that will introduce a new section within the profile settings to manage social media links, scheduled for release in a future update. This section will allow users to add a direct link to their social media profiles, which will then be displayed on their WhatsApp account. Currently, Instagram is the only supported platform, but there is potential for additional social media services to be integrated before the official release.

Once users enter their Instagram username, the link will automatically appear at the top of the chat info screen, making it easily accessible for their contacts who want to visit their profile with a single tap. Unlike WhatsApp Business accounts, which require authentication before linking a social media profile, this verification step does not seem to be present for regular WhatsApp Messenger users. In WhatsApp Business, businesses must authenticate their accounts by logging in to the respective platform before adding the link. However, for personal users, the unavailability of this verification means they can manually enter any Instagram handle without needing to prove ownership. Since this feature is still in development, WhatsApp may choose to introduce a verification process for personal accounts in a future update, although this is not yet confirmed, as there is no official information on whether WhatsApp will implement such a verification step.

It is important to highlight that this feature is completely optional, as users won't have to add any social media links when they log into WhatsApp. This means that users who do not wish to display their social media profiles on WhatsApp will not be required to add any links. However, those who decide to use this feature will have control over their profile links through privacy settings in the future, allowing them to manage visibility or remove the link at any time.

A feature to add social media links to user profiles is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
