It seems that WhatsApp continues to focus on group chats, developing additional features to better clarify the roles of specific members within group conversations. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.4.3 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to assign labels to group chat members!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a new feature that will allow group members to assign themselves a label, scheduled for release in a future update. With this new feature, group members will be able to define their role within the chat using a personalized label, providing clarity and helping others understand their position or responsibilities within the group. These labels will be visible only within the specific group where they are assigned, ensuring that privacy is maintained across different conversations. This means that if a user has a specific role in one group, that label will not be carried over to other groups, preserving confidentiality regarding these personalized titles.

Through this feature, WhatsApp has plans to offer complete flexibility by allowing users to type their own role instead of selecting from a predefined list of options. This approach will enable greater personalization, making it easier for group members to express their exact role. For example, WhatsApp suggests labels such as "Coach" or "Chairperson", but even labels that indicate a parental role are recommended, which could be particularly helpful in school-related groups involving parents and teachers.

Additionally, this feature will be beneficial for groups requiring structured moderation. It will allow members to specify which admin is responsible for what, making it clear who to contact for specific issues. Supporters and topic experts can also label themselves accordingly, helping others identify the best person to reach out to for guidance or assistance. Another advantage of this feature is its persistence even after a WhatsApp reset or reinstall. This ensures that once a user has set a label, it will remain intact, providing continuity and maintaining clarity within group conversations. By preserving these labels, WhatsApp is ensuring that important group roles remain easily identifiable over time, even in the case of app reinstalls.
