WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.4.15: what's new?

Users can choose from several language data packages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, making the feature accessible to users in regions where these languages are widely spoken. It seems that WhatsApp continues to focus on providing tools to enhance the convenience of voice message transcriptions, including options to better customize and manage how transcripts are accessed and processed. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.4.15 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to choose how to get voice message transcripts!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that offers users more control over their voice message transcripts, scheduled for release in a future update. Specifically, this new feature will allow users to decide how they want to receive transcriptions for their voice messages through three different options. The first option is "Automatically", allowing users to see a transcript every time they receive a voice message. This option aims to enhance the experience, providing instant access to the transcript without needing to take additional steps. The second option will allow users to activate the transcription only when they specifically want it through a manual action. By tapping the "Transcribe" option, users will trigger the process and receive the text for the selected voice note. The third option offers users the ability to opt out of receiving transcriptions altogether, giving them full control over the feature.

It is important to note that WhatsApp will offer the flexibility to change these settings at any time. This means that as users' preferences evolve or their needs change, they can easily adjust how they interact with voice message transcriptions. For example, a user might choose the "Automatically" option for some periods but switch to "Manually" when they prefer more control over when transcriptions appear.

Currently, users need to manually start the transcription process whenever they want one, which can be inconvenient, especially for those who regularly receive long voice messages. This means that the current default option is manual, requiring users to tap the "Transcribe" button each time they want a transcript. However, this new feature will simplify the process, providing users with a smoother experience tailored to their specific preferences in the future.
