NOTIFICATION REMINDERS FOR MISSED CALLS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.14 update, we announced that a feature to create notification reminders for chat messages was available. This feature allows users to set alerts for specific messages within a conversation, helping them revisit important content at a chosen time. With both preset intervals and fully customizable scheduling options, users can efficiently manage follow-ups, all while keeping reminders private and processed entirely on-device. It appears that WhatsApp aims to extend reminder functionality to calls as well, offering a more complete and seamless experience for staying organized. Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.22.5 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to create notification reminders for missed calls!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can now explore the ability to set reminders for missed calls directly within the chat where the call occurred. Just like with text or media messages, the missed call entry now includes a dedicated option that allows users to schedule a reminder for it. This makes it easier for users to follow up on calls that couldn't be answered in the moment, as they can schedule a timely reminder to return the call when it's more convenient for them. It's worth noting that it is also possible to create a reminder directly from the Calls tab by selecting a missed call, offering an alternate and efficient way to manage them outside the chat view.

When creating a reminder for a missed call, users are presented with some convenient preset time intervals, such as 2 hours later, 8 hours later, or the next day, which are ideal for quick planning. Additionally, users can choose a fully custom date and time if they need to align the reminder with their availability, meetings, or other personal schedules. At the chosen time, WhatsApp will display a dedicated notification reminding the user about the missed call. The notification includes the caller's name, profile picture, and a direct link to open the conversation where the reminder was created.

This functionality is particularly helpful in situations where the user is in a meeting, commuting, or otherwise unable to respond immediately but doesn't want to forget to reconnect later. For example, someone may receive a missed call from a family member during work hours and want to be reminded to return the call later in the evening. Or, a user might miss a call from a client and prefer to schedule a reminder after finishing a current task to ensure timely follow-up. Just like message-based reminders, call reminders are processed entirely on-device and remain private.

A feature to create notification reminders for missed calls is available to some beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming weeks.
