This can be especially helpful in group conversations where multiple stickers may be sent in quick succession. Regarding GIFs, users have the ability to prevent them from playing automatically. If this option is disabled, GIFs will only play when manually tapped by the user. This gives users more control over when and how dynamic content is displayed, avoiding unexpected distractions during conversations.

Initially, WhatsApp considered implementing a single toggle to disable all types of animations at once. However, WhatsApp opted for a more flexible approach during the development. As a result, the feature was split into three separate options, allowing users to independently manage the animation settings for emojis, stickers, and GIFs. This decision provides users with the freedom to choose which types of animated content they want to see in motion. For example, someone might find animated emojis distracting but still enjoy animated GIFs, and now they can make that choice. By offering separate settings, users can tailor their preferences to minimize distractions, as each type of animated content can impact the chat experience differently.
