REDESIGNED DRAWING EDITOR

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.17 update, we announced that WhatsApp was releasing a new text editor experience to some beta testers. This enhancement was designed to provide users with a more modern interface when adding text to images, videos, and GIFs, allowing for easier customization and editing. It appears that WhatsApp aims to further enhance the drawing editor by refining its interface and tools, with the purpose to elevate the drawing experience. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.6 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is now working on a redesigned drawing editor!

As evident from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is in the process of exploring the integration of a bottom bar for the brush and color tools within the drawing editor screen, scheduled for release in an upcoming update. Currently, the color bar is positioned at the top of the screen, which can be particularly complicated to access on larger displays. However, in a future update, this redesign promises to enhance the editing experience by relocating this tool to the bottom of the screen, ensuring convenient access and a more intuitive interface for users. It is also important to note that WhatsApp will enhance color selection by providing users with a feature to choose from a palette of 24 default colors, simplifying navigation through available color options.

In our opinion, the revamped drawing editor, featuring a new bottom bar design, may offer a notable advantage in terms of intuitiveness and convenience. By adopting this layout, WhatsApp has the potential to significantly improve the editing process, as it will be easier for users to use these drawing tools. Placing the editing tools at the bottom of the screen will enhance accessibility, ensuring they're easily reachable without obstructing the viewed content. We believe that this contrast with the conventional placement at the top of the screen may significantly enhance user interactions, improving the whole editing process of our photos and videos.

A redesigned drawing editor is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we gather more information about this feature.
