PRIVATE MENTIONS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.6.19 update, we announced a new feature in development to receive notifications for mentions in status updates. This enhancement will allow users to directly send a notification whenever they mention specific contacts in their status updates, so they can stay always informed and engaged with relevant content. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.16 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to privately mention contacts in status updates along with the ability to mute them!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring a feature to mention contacts in status updates, set for release in a future update. When a contact is mentioned in a status update, they will receive a notification specifically for that mention, ensuring they are always promptly informed. It is worth noting that this action will maintain user privacy as other viewers of the shared status update won't have access to any private mentions. It is also important to highlight that muting a status update will prevent users from receiving any mentions from the muted contact.
We believe that the ability to privately mentions contacts in status updates will greatly increase how much users interact with specific users in the future. By allowing users to mention contacts in their status updates, they will be able to directly involve and engage those particular contacts in their shared moments or updates. This feature guarantees that significant updates always catch the attention of the mentioned contacts because they will receive notifications directly. We think the private aspect of these mentions protects user privacy, as only the people mentioned will get notifications. In addition, mentioned contacts won't appear in status updates because they are always private, ensuring they stay confidential and only visible to the intended recipients.
A feature to privately mention contacts in status updates is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we gather more information about this feature.
