WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.7: what's new?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.24.8.7.
What's new in this update? WhatsApp is working on a feature to explore more similar channels, and it will be available in a future update!

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.5.15 update, we announced a new feature in development to receive suggestions regarding similar channels. This feature was designed to allow users to discover new channels based on their similarity to other existing channels they already follow, enhancing the navigation experience and offering helpful recommendations. Although the ability to explore similar channels is still under development, it seems that WhatsApp is now in the process of further refining this feature before its release, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.8.7 update from the Google Play Store.

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp keeps working on the feature to suggest similar channels, for a future update of the app. Unlike previous updates, the list of similar channels will also appear within the channel info screen even though it isn't being followed. This adjustment is designed to help users discover new channels that they may be interested in, without necessarily needing to follow the specific channel they are currently viewing. As a result, they might consider an alternative similar channel if one exists. In addition, the list of similar channels may also appear subsequently when attempting to follow a channel, not necessarily from the channel info screen.

We believe that the feature to allow users to explore more similar channels will primarily help them in discovering new content that aligns with their interests. Many users may not be aware of all the channels available on WhatsApp that cater to their interests. By suggesting similar channels, WhatsApp is committed to help users explore a broader range of content that they may find relevant and engaging. As mentioned in our earlier article, WhatsApp will also help channel owners get more popularity by extending their reach to a wider audience through this feature. In our opinion, this will incentivize channel owners to keep creating high-quality content, knowing it has the potential to reach more users genuinely interested in their updates.
