SUGGESTED CONTACTS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.18 update, we announced a favorite feature for the calls tab. This feature is designed to allow users to quickly find their favorite contacts and groups for a faster calling experience, so they no longer have to scroll through the entire contacts list. It appears that WhatsApp is also exploring new functionalities to further improve user engagement, encouraging users to chat with more contacts. Specifically, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.23 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to suggest contacts to chat with!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is in the process of adding a new section to the chats list, for a future update of the app. This section will list suggested new contacts from the address book to start a chat with, facilitating the initiation of new conversations. It will be added to the bottom of the chats list, providing users with easy access to potential new conversations without disrupting their existing chat order. It appears that WhatsApp might suggest initiating conversations with contacts whom users have never interacted with before, as a way to encourage new connections and interactions. It is worth noting that these suggestions will also be presented to new users upon their initial registration with WhatsApp, enhancing the process of establishing connections for the first time.
In our opinion, this addition aims to enhance the communication process and user convenience by proactively suggesting contacts for initiating conversations. Suggesting contacts can encourage users to initiate conversations more frequently, increasing engagement with new contacts. When some contacts are conveniently presented in a separate section within the chat list or when new users register their account for the first time, they may be more likely to engage in chats. It is important to note that this section can be dismissed at any time in case users prefer not to receive suggestions for new interactions, ensuring that they always retain control over their messaging experience.
The feature to suggest contacts to chat with is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share an additional article once we have further details about this feature.
