TEXT STATUS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.11 update, we announced a new feature in development: the ability to show the text status within the top app bar in a conversation. This feature was designed with the intention of highlighting text statuses, which will receive significant enhancements in the future, including the ability to set an expiration for our status. Although this feature is still in development, we discovered that WhatsApp is currently working on a text status feature for group chat mentions, as spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.15 update from the Google Play Store:
As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring a feature to incorporate the text status into the menu when mentioning a participant in a group chat. With this enhancement, the text status configured by other group members is consistently visible whenever there is an attempt to mention them. By integrating the text status feature into group chat mentions, WhatsApp aims to enhance communication and engagement among group members, allowing them to stay updated on the status configured by other group members before mentioning them.
In our opinion, this feature proves to be very beneficial as it makes the text status promptly visible in the picker. This means that users will be able to see if a group member has updated their status with something like "Busy" or "Away", indicating that it might not be an appropriate time to mention them in the group chat. We believe that this feature will add a layer of awareness and consideration to group interactions as it encourages more thoughtful and respectful communication among participants. It also provides insight into the future usage of the text status feature for a different purpose, indicating its potential to serve not just as personal updates but also as indicators of user availability.
The text status feature for group chat mentions is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We'll provide an extra article once more details about this feature become available.
