DISABLE LINK PREVIEWS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.12 update, we announced a new feature to protect your IP address in calls. This feature was designed to make it harder for other users to infer your location, as calls are securely relayed through WhatsApp servers. It appears that WhatsApp is now working on additional advanced features, aimed to offer users greater control over their privacy. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.12 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to disable link previews!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently implementing a new privacy feature to disable link previews, for a future update of the app. Currently, when a user enters a link into the chat bar, WhatsApp automatically generates a preview of that link. This preview typically includes information such as the title of the webpage, a brief description, and a thumbnail image. With this new option, users will be able to manage whether the app automatically generates link previews, enhancing their privacy and security experience. We believe that some users may feel more comfortable to disable this feature to stop third-party websites from tracking this activity. It is important to note that, even with this feature disabled, users will continue to receive rich link previews from their contacts unless they opt out of link previews entirely.
By allowing users to disable link previews, WhatsApp provides an additional layer of privacy and security. It will allow users to exercise greater caution when interacting with links they share with their contacts and groups, without the risk of inadvertently revealing information contained in link preview. We believe that this added layer of control aligns with WhatsApp's commitment to prioritizing user privacy and security, allowing users to customize their experience according to their individual preferences and concerns.
The privacy feature to disable link previews is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share an additional article once we have further details about this feature.
