SEARCH BAR
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.21.12 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a new revamped interface for the Android beta app. This interface was designed to offer users a more modern interface that features new icons, a bottom navigation bar, and a new green color for both light and dark modes. It appears that WhatsApp is committed to further enhancing this interface by implementing changes regarding the search functionality within the app. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.7.1 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a search bar feature for the chat list interface!

As you can see in the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently in the process of developing a search bar dedicated to the chats tab, for a future update of the app. It's important to note that the development process for new features involves various stages, including design, testing, and implementation, and sometimes features may undergo important changes before reaching the public release stage. Consequently, it's reasonable to anticipate additional alterations to the search bar in the upcoming updates.
In our opinion, the development of a new search bar could indeed be part of its broader strategy to align the app with Material Design 3 principles, aiming to provide a more intuitive, adaptive, and cohesive user experience. By incorporating elements of Material Design 3 into the interface, WhatsApp would be demonstrating its dedication to keeping its app visually modern, contributing to a more user-friendly experience. Introducing a revamped search bar that adheres to Material Design 3 guidelines could enhance the overall cohesiveness and consistency of the app interface, ensuring that it feels familiar and intuitive to users accustomed to other apps following the same design principles.
The search bar feature for the chats list interface is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share an additional article once we have further details about this feature.
