CHAT CAPTION
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.1.10.73 update, we announced a new feature available to some beta testers: a new chat caption to identify end-to-end encrypted conversations. This addition aims to enhance the user experience by providing a visual indicator within the chat interface. While this feature is already available to some iOS users, we discovered that, thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.3.17 update from the Google Play Store, WhatsApp is now working on adding the same caption in end-to-end encrypted chats to the Android app as well!

As you can see in this attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring a new caption aimed at assisting users involved in an end-to-end encrypted conversation, reassuring them that their private messages remain inaccessible to unauthorized parties. This enhancement involves the introduction of a padlock icon with the label "End-to-End Encrypted" prominently displayed within the top app bar. It is important to clarify that the implementation of this caption does not imply that existing chats are not end-to-end encrypted, as the new caption just serves as a visual indicator for user awareness. Users can currently verify the end-to-end encryption status of their chats by accessing the chat info section.
We believe that this initiative aligns with WhatsApp's commitment to user transparency, empowering them with visual cues to understand and trust the security measures in place. By providing clear and intuitive indicators of end-to-end encryption, users are always informed about the robust protection of their conversations. It's worth noting that the last seen will appear after a few seconds, once the brief display of the secure messaging confirmation label has concluded.
The new caption that marks chats as end-to-end encrypted is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. As always, we're going to share a new article when we have further information regarding this feature.
