QR CODE - CHANNEL

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.11.8 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a feature to quickly explore new channels. This feature introduced a dedicated shortcut to the updates tab, making it easier for users to discover and follow channels that align with their interests. Additionally, the channel creation option has been moved to the overflow menu in the top app bar, enhancing the interface and minimizing confusion by relocating the previous entry point. These changes aimed to enhance user engagement by simplifying content discovery and making channel navigation more intuitive. It appears that WhatsApp is making further strides in improving the channel experience, aiming to facilitate easier access to channel content and enhance user interaction. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.22.20 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to view and follow channels using QR codes!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the introduction of a new section that allows channel owners to share the QR code for their channels, scheduled for release in a future update. The use of QR codes presents a more efficient alternative to sharing traditional links. Instead of needing to send a link that users must open, a QR code can be displayed directly on the screen for anyone nearby to scan. This convenience eliminates the need to copy and send the channel invite link in case users are engaged in face-to-face interactions. Channel owners will simply be able to show the QR code on their device to friends or audiences, making the sharing process more spontaneous and engaging. After scanning the QR code, users will be instantly redirected to the channel, allowing them to view its content and follow it with just a tap in the future.

We believe this feature will be particularly beneficial in social settings where users want to share their favorite channels without relying on digital communication. For example, at events, meetups, or casual gatherings, attendees can simply scan a QR code with their camera to quickly access and follow the channel. In addition, businesses and shops can leverage this feature to enhance customer engagement by displaying QR codes prominently in their establishments. By placing QR codes on posters, product packaging, or checkout counters, shops will be able to encourage customers to connect with their business channels directly, whether for promotions, updates, or other community events.

A feature to view and follow channels using QR codes is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
