REMINDERS FOR STATUS UPDATES

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.3 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a feature to mention contacts in status updates. This feature allows users to privately mention specific contacts when sharing photos and videos in their status updates through a notification, ensuring that they are promptly informed whenever they are tagged in a photo or video. It appears that WhatsApp is developing additional tools to further enhance engagement with status updates, making it easier for users to stay connected and interact with anything shared by their contacts. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.21.7 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a reminder notification feature for status updates!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a new option to get reminders for status updates, scheduled for release in a future update. Through this feature, users will be able to receive occasional notifications reminding them of status updates they haven't seen yet. This tool is designed to ensure that users never miss out on important status updates from their contacts, particularly in cases where they may not have been actively checking statuses regularly.

Users will be able to manage this feature within the notifications settings in the future. It is worth noting that users will retain full control over whether they want to receive these occasional reminders. However, the frequency and relevance of the reminders will be automatic, as users will not need to customize or adjust these settings manually. Instead, WhatsApp will intelligently send occasional reminders about unseen status updates, particularly focusing on relevant ones such as updates from contacts who are marked as favorites or frequently interacted with. In addition, we believe that users with many contacts in their address book can easily miss updates, especially since status updates disappear after 24 hours. As a result, this reminder system ensures that even if users forget to check the status section, WhatsApp will nudge them about updates they've yet to see.

A reminder notification feature for status updates is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
