RESHARE STATUS UPDATES

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.3 update, we announced that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to mention contacts in status updates. This feature allows users to directly involve specific contacts in their status updates by notifying them through a mention. When a contact is mentioned, they will receive a notification and the possibility to reshare the status update with their own audience. It appears that WhatsApp is committed to further improving this feature before the release to a wider audience by highlighting the possibility to reshare such updates. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.9 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a new reshare feature for status updates!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a revamped button to reshare status updates where users are mentioned, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. In the current update, some beta testers can reshare status updates by tapping on the button next to the caption bar, but this button is a simple icon, which may not be immediately intuitive to all users. The current reshare button only displays an icon, offering no additional context or explanation. As a result, some users might have found it unclear what the button is intended for.

In contrast, a redesigned reshare button will be introduced in the future. This button will be larger and it includes both an icon and text, making its purpose far more obvious. It will be positioned prominently above the caption bar, ensuring users notice it when viewing the status update in which they are mentioned. The added text explicitly describes the purpose of the button, removing any ambiguity and making it more user-friendly, especially for those less familiar with the new feature to mention contacts in status updates. We believe that this change is more convenient and intuitive, as users will immediately be able to understand that the button allows them to reshare the status update.

A new reshare feature for status updates is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
