DEFAULT CHAT THEME

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.19 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a new default chat theme feature. This feature will allow users to customize the appearance of their chat interface by selecting their preferred color for chat bubbles and wallpapers from a predefined set of themes. Although this new customization tool is still in development, it appears that WhatsApp is dedicated to further improving this feature before the official release, allowing users to pick their favorite theme from this interface. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.20.12 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to allow users to choose their favorite theme from a range of different design styles!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of new themes with multiple design styles for the Android app, scheduled for release in a future update. In this update, we discovered that WhatsApp is designing 11 default chat themes, making the collection more diverse and customizable for users. In this example, we have a new Blue theme compatible with both light and dark environments, and we previously shared an Indigo theme on X. With the introduction of this feature, users will be able to fully personalize the look and feel of their chats by selecting specific themes that match their preferences, especially for the dark mode. Specifically, users opting for the dark theme will also be able to fine-tune the brightness level, providing a more comfortable viewing experience in low-light conditions.

When users select a theme, both the wallpaper and chat bubble colors will automatically adjust to reflect the chosen style, as each theme includes its own unique wallpaper. This approach ensures that the wallpaper is designed to complement the bubble colors, making the interface more cohesive with a unified look. However, users will also have the ability to change the wallpaper independently while keeping the new message bubble color intact. This additional layer of customization ensures that users can further fine-tune the aesthetic of their chats, giving them even more control over the visual aspects of their messaging interface.

Users will be able to access the new section dedicated to theme customization through the app settings in the future, allowing them to adjust the look and feel of their conversations. Since this is a default chat theme, it will be as a default to all conversations, though there is an option to manually override the theme for specific chats in future updates. It's important to note that only you will be able to see your default chat theme set to specific conversations, ensuring a personalized experience without compromising the privacy or visibility of the other participants in the chat. We believe that this additional layer of privacy can allow users to discreetly enjoy their preferred themes, with no impact on the other party's view of the conversation.

A new default chat theme feature with multiple design options is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
