CALL LINK FOR GROUP CHATS

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.21.13 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out the ability to create links to join calls. This feature allows users to easily generate and share links for both voice and video calls, enabling others to join with a single tap directly within the calls tab. It appears that WhatsApp is now committed to further improving this feature by facilitating the creation of those links within conversations. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.19.14 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a call link feature within group chats!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a new call link feature within group chats, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. This shortcut will be available within the chat attachment sheet and allows users to create a call link directly from a group chat. The introduction of this shortcut will make it easier for group members to start a call without ringing everyone in the group, giving participants the flexibility to join at their convenience.

It is important to note that call links have already been available in WhatsApp for the past two years, but the new shortcut will simplify the process by letting users create and share these links directly within group chats. Once the link is shared, users can quickly send it to the group chat and other members can tap to join without the need for a group-wide ring notification. Instead of notifying everyone through an immediate group call ring, users can share the link in the chat, letting members join at their convenience when the group call is active. This can be particularly useful for large groups, where not everyone may be available at the same time, especially if members are located in different countries with varying time zones. The ability to join the call through a link ensures that group members in different time zones won't be disrupted, allowing them to join the call at a time that suits them if it's still active.

A call link feature within group chats is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
