WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.19: what's new?

WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play Beta Program, bringing the version up to 2.24.17.19.
What's new in this update? WhatsApp is working on a new default chat theme feature, and it will be available in a future update!

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.11.10.70 update, we reported that WhatsApp was working on a theme feature to customize the chat bubble color. With this feature, WhatsApp aims to enhance the messaging experience by granting users greater control over their visual interface, allowing them to choose their favorite color for chat bubbles. Although this feature is still in development on WhatsApp beta for iOS, it appears that WhatsApp is also committed to bringing the same feature to the Android app, as discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.17.19 update from the Google Play Store.

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is testing a new section where users will be able to choose their favorite default chat theme, scheduled for release in a future update. The feature is still in development, so a preview of the themes WhatsApp will include in the future is not available yet, but we can already anticipate there will be at least 10 chat themes to enrich the user experience. Since it is a default chat theme, it will be applied to all our conversations automatically, hinting at the potential for a manual override option for specific chats in future updates. Through this customization option, users will be able to choose a new color for their chat bubbles and wallpapers for the default chat theme from a range of several options. Once a color is chosen, it will automatically set as the default chat theme, adjusting both the wallpaper and bubble color accordingly.

In our opinion, the introduction of this customizable default chat theme feature will significantly enhance the interface of the app, enabling users to personalize the look and feel of their chats even further. By allowing users to select their favorite theme, WhatsApp will allow them to tailor their messaging experience to their personal preferences. We anticipate that this level of customization improves our conversations as we will be able to choose our favorite colors, refining the interface to make our messaging experience more engaging. It is worth noting that customising the default chat theme will only impact your own interface and won't alter the appearance for others. As other users won't be aware of the theme you've chosen, it ensures that this customization remains personal and does not affect their messaging experience.

A new default chat theme feature is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we have new information about this feature.
