TRANSFER CHAT HISTORY

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.9.19 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a chat transfer feature without using Google Drive. Through this feature, users can easily migrate their chat history from one Android device to another by scanning a QR code within the app settings. This eliminates the need for manual backups to Google Drive, offering a more enhanced and automatic process for transferring data. It appears that WhatsApp might be exploring other different methods to transfer chat history, with the aim of making this process easier. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.13.6 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to transfer the chat history from the old phone!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently experimenting with another section to let users easily transfer their chat history from an old phone, scheduled for release in a future update of the app. Specific details regarding the implementation for this alternative feature are currently unavailable as it is still in development. However, it looks like a universal feature designed to transfer chat history across different platforms without relying on specific sections or methods. Although this is purely speculative, this new section suggests WhatsApp may be aiming to enhance the migration process universally across devices, as it doesn't mention that the old phone needs to be an Android device.

It is worth noting that WhatsApp currently supports migrating chat history between iOS and Android devices, but this requires users to access a separate section and use a physical cable to complete the process. In addition, old Android versions are not compatible with this migration feature, limiting its accessibility to users with newer Android operating systems. The upcoming feature might aim to potentially enhance this capability by making the migration process universal across different platforms. However, further details about how this universal feature operates are still awaited, and additional information will likely be revealed as the development progresses in the future.

A feature to transfer the chat history from the old phone is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we have new information about this feature.
