FAVORITE CHATS AND GROUPS
In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.33 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a favorites feature for the chats tab. Through this enhancement, WhatsApp aims to facilitate access to the most important conversations, allowing users to quickly find their favorite contacts and groups. This feature was already available for the calls tab, enabling users to easily access their favorite contacts for phone calls. It appears that WhatsApp is finally testing this feature with the public, as some users in the beta program can now experience the new chat filter for favorites. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.12.7 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a favorite feature for chats and groups!
As you can see from the attached screenshot, some beta testers can now experiment with a new filter to quickly locate their favorite conversations. These include chats with both individual contacts and groups, making it easier for users to prioritize and find the people and group chats that matter most across WhatsApp. Users can add favorites directly within this tab and manage them through a new section called "Favorites" available in the app settings. This allows users to easily add, remove, and reorder their favorite contacts and groups. In addition, it's possible to add favorites right within the chat info screen, allowing users to quickly choose their most important conversations without having to open their contacts picker.
In our opinion, offering a feature to add favorites for the chats tab enhances user efficiency by allowing quick access to frequently contacted chats and groups. This feature also reduces the time spent searching for important conversations, especially when users have many active chats. In addition, we believe it improves user organization within the app, enabling users to keep their most vital chats readily accessible and well-organized, which enhances their overall messaging experience.
A favorite filtering feature for the chats tab is available to some beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store, and it is rolling out to even more people over the coming days.
