TRANSFER OWNERSHIP - COMMUNITIES

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.4.22 update, we announced that WhatsApp was rolling out a feature to transfer the channel ownership. Through this enhancement, WhatsApp aimed to allow channel owners to easily delegate administrative responsibilities to other users. It appears that WhatsApp is committed to developing similar solutions for other existing features, extending the capability to transfer ownership to various aspects. As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently testing a feature to allow community admins to transfer the ownership of their communities to another member, set for release in a future update of the app. When an admin assigns community ownership to another member, they agree to surrender their primary administrative privileges and responsibilities within all community group chats, including the ability to disable the entire community. However, it's important to note that they will retain their status as a community admin, although other admins might demote or remove them from the community at any time.

In our opinion, the implementation of this feature might bring several improvements to the user experience, as it will simplify transitions of ownership within communities, ensuring continuity and stability even during changes in leadership. This might be particularly beneficial in scenarios where community admins may need to step back due to time constraints, shifting priorities, or other personal reasons. In addition, the advantage of retaining admin status even after transferring ownership will ensure continuity and stability within the community. While transferring ownership may involve delegating primary administrative privileges to another member, we believe that retaining admin status will allow the original admin to continue supporting and guiding the community.

A transfer ownership feature for communities is under development and it will be available in a future update of the app. We will share another article once we've gathered additional information about this feature.
